Grown up around the railway
Milford railway station opened on 1 January 1859 on what became the Portsmouth Direct Line, and it was this connection that turned a small village into a larger one. The chapelry of Milford was itself only constituted in 1844, shortly before the railway's arrival changed the area.
Commons either side
Witley and Milford Commons, bought by local residents and given to the National Trust in December 1905, spread across heath and woodland close to the village, offering open space that's remained largely undeveloped as housing has grown up around it.

Milford forms part of the Witley and Milford civil parish, under Waverley Borough Council, the same authority responsible for Godalming itself.
