Where two navigations meet
Shalford sits at the point where the Godalming Navigation, the canalised stretch of the Wey running up from Godalming, joins the older Wey Navigation heading on to Guildford, giving the village a long association with the river and its waterway traffic.
An 18th-century mill saved by 'Ferguson's Gang'
Shalford Mill, a Grade II* listed 18th-century watermill in the centre of the village, was given to the National Trust in 1932 by a group of anonymous female philanthropists who called themselves Ferguson's Gang. Unusually, the building originally housed two separate mills side by side, each with its own waterwheel.
St Catherine's Hill and the council
